“Member of the Month” for December, 2018
Carrie Kachur (nee Sowan)
Carrie Kachur is a Swan River First Nation band member and is very proud to be a member of Treaty No. 8. She currently resides in Edmonton however enjoys spending time wither her immediate and extended family in Swan River when she is able, a place that is very close and dear to her and where she has many fond childhood memories.
She is a wife and mother of two grown sons whom she is very proud of and she keeps herself busy running her business “Kaskitew Atim Contracting” Est. in 2017, which provides Administrative & Human Resources support as well as Event Planning services. In addition to this business she is also partners with her husband in running “Mobility Moving Inc.”, an independently family owned and operated full service moving company Est. in 2008. Both businesses proudly serve Edmonton and surrounding areas including many First Nations, and Indigenous businesses and clients. As an Indigenous woman in business, she is very proud of her accomplishments and she looks forward to continuing to grow both companies in the coming years.
Being involved in her community is very important and thus Carrie also currently sits on the Board of Directors for the Edmonton Aboriginal Business and Professional Association (Aksis) and is also an active member with MADD Edmonton. She has also sat on the Board of the George Spady Society and is currently becoming involved in Big Sisters Big Brothers and WIN House. She is passionate about helping others, working together for a common ground in her community and bringing awareness to vital issues for those in need. She loves to volunteer her time when she can and in addition she takes great pride in her strong desire and passion for protecting and upholding her treaty and wanting to be a part of its dynamic future, both for Treaty No. 8 and her community, Swan River First Nation.
It has often been said that her kindness, keenness, passion for integrity , dedication to her family and her high standards of personal and professional work ethic have always been at the forefront of who she is as a person. In her spare time Carrie enjoys singing, reading, writing, spending time with her family, going to the mountains, and watching her children flourish in their lives.
